Work on the Wachovia Bank Building was started in 1926, shortly after the Bridge of Lions was started and completed in 1928. It was built for the First National Bank of St. Augustine and has been, used as a bank, continuously, except for a brief period during the great depression. The main lobby consists of marble columns and floors and the vault is the original. In 1987 the building had a face-lift restoring it to its original 1928 appearance. This is tallest building (it is on the left side in the picture above) in Old Town, it is a classic design and I was pleased to be able to record it. |
