Welcome to TedPappas.com, I hope you enjoy the imagery and will take the time to send me your comments. Photography is my hobby and passion for over sixty years. My interest in photography started at a very early age. I was visiting a local darkroom and was hooked the first time I watched a print materialize in the developer, as if by magic. My first camera was a Kodak Box Camera, and I still have it as part of my collection. During the summer of 1946, at the age of 15 I altered my birth certificate and went to work for the railroad. I started unloading boxcars and than transferred to the bridge painting crew, it was harder and dirtier but it paid more money. By the end of summer I had saved enough money to buy my first quality camera, a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 Speed Graphic During the Korean War I was a photographer in the U S Air Force and during my last two years was assigned to the 3rd Photo Squadron in Wiesbaden Germany. Our primary mission was to provide motion picture coverage in Europe, Africa and the Near East. Our footage was used as press releases or as documentary material for the archives. As part of this group I traveled extensively throughout all of Europe, North Africa, the Near East and as far as French Indo China (Viet Nam). My assignment on this team was to provide still photo coverage. The imagery on this site covers a very broad range of subject matter, I have spent time in Florida, and I am currently living there. The availability of shore birds is very obvious in my subject matter. I have always had a great interest in Panorama’s, the first one I made was in 1974. We had an issue with the city regarding the moving of a road. I set my camera in the middle of the intersection and began taking shots in a 360-degree circle. I made individual prints and taped them together, it was very primitive by today’s standards. It worked we had the road moved, in fact I still have it. I have taken advantage of the current technology and am still creating Panorama’s; they can be viewed on this site. Panorama’s In 2003 I made the move to “Digital Photography” and never looked back. In my opinion it is the most significant advancement since the inception of film. With this medium we can accomplish more than we ever could with film. The downside is it has shifted the processing from the lab to the individual photographer and the computer. Some photographers have chosen to continue with film, that is unfortunate because they are missing out on one of the greatest technological advances. I have been asked who my favorite photographer is, when I respond Yousuf Karsh the reaction is who! They expect my response to be Ansel Adams, Brett Weston or Alfred Stieglitz, not Yousuf Karsh. In my opinion he was the greatest Portrait Photographer. For those of you who are old enough to remember who Winston Churchill was, you might recall that famous portrait of him; Karsh took it. I have included a link to the George Eastman House and the second site will have the Churchell Portrait. Check them out and see if you don't agree with me George Eastman House.George Eastman House.
